Shakumasu "Retreat Session 1"

72 atmospheric minutes of music without title pauses! The perfect music CD for an hour of deep meditation, contemplation and relaxation. Make your home a hidden retreat place, somewhere in the mountains!

Buddhist composer Shakumasu produced this masterpiece with original ritual instruments: Thai gongs, large Taiko Drum, Khunjani Bell, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Chinese Opera Gong, Large Tam-Tam, Temple Block, various bells. Performed by Shakumasu and the Orchestra Anatta. If you listen closely, you can hear the sounds of the wilderness and the soothing tinkles of Windchimes been played by a gentle breeze.

Love it....Music is one of my favourite thing along with burning pure essentail oils at the same time...wow!!!

By the way synchronistically I have a CD playing in my PC at the moment which is gorgeous...called 'Carry The Gift', native American flute by R. Carlos Nakai and with William Eaton on guitar, harp guitar and lyre.

The good with instrumental music is, that unlike speech it is free of interpretation, yet telling stories. For some computer work (text studying), I can't concentrate on the words when there is singing music. You know that phenomenon?

Purelander, I got this CD from Centerpointe Reaearch, called Quietude for studying. It is suppose to help you focus. It really worked for a subject I was having trouble understanding. I wound up with a C instead of a F. A little dissapointing for me but it was better than nothing. They have a whole line of meditation CDs, backed by scientific reasearch. It's a little spendy, but I got the first level anyway, which included Quietude. If interested, it's at www.centerpointe.com

Interesting, amysreal. Thank you!

I think that music is adressed to the "soul" or "True Self", and the "Pure Mind.". The brain is the computer of the body-mind, both are impermanent. The so-called "Pure Mind" is a part of the "soul" or "True Self" and transforms during death and birth, it continues to exist. Even if you don't believe in rebirth, you will agree, that the brain dies.

We have to see the oneness of the body. All organs work in symbiosis with our True Self (soul) which is immortal.

Spiritual music opens the so-called chakras of the body, spiritual "gates". The right frequencies are very important to open the respective chakras. And ritual instruments release mantras when been played. - However, good music can also be "just relaxing" and soothing and bring happiness.

There are preview music samples of "Pure Land - Pure Mind" online, the upcoming CD. Sounds really blissful!

Purelander, I checked out the bits. Very nice.

The Centerpointe CDs are along the same premise. They use different frequencies to bring about heightened states of consciousness.

Purelander I listened to the samplers and they are really nice. I love ambience music and have alot of it at home. Would love to get some this but you have to have a credit card which I don't have or want. I live in overseas so they won't allow for anything but a credit type card. I have emailed them to see if they can give me any other options for getting this music.....I'll just have to wait and see what suggestions they come up with.

Has anyone experienced Kitaro's wonderful 'soundscapes'? I particularly love his album 'Tenku' for meditation/ambience. You actually feel 'lifted' and transported by the sounds (reminiscent of woodwinds and water). Yes, Enya is sublime.

Ma'atkara....I have heard Kitaro music but not the one you've mentioned. As I have had no luck with Shakumasu's music because of my living in Australia and not having a credit card I will see if I can get a hold of the one you've mentioned as I need some new ambience music. I like people to recommend good ambience music to me as it's difficult to know what is good sometimes unless someone else tells you.

As far as Enya is concerned I have the tape on Trees and playing that whilst driving through the national parks bushland is a real thrilling experience.

Thanks Amy for your recommendation.....you were quick with your posting. Sneaked it in while I was organising mine.....I've found that before. I'm busy tying away a response to some and someone gets in just before me. I get a bit of a dejavu feeling when that happens. Amy, thousands of miles away on the pc while I'm sitting here at mine and the words take seconds to get there. It really is quite amazing sometimes, I think.

Luminair & Amy~
Aha! Kindred spirits, no less. Amy, loving Kitaro... and Luminair - a fellow Aussie!! I'm an 'ex-pat' living in the USA. Howzat!?
I'm from west of Sydney, moved here in '95.

Kitaro's 'Tenku' album came out in '86, when I was in Oz. OK, let's see how far this synchronicity goes...anyone familiar with Leonard Cohen - the Christed Jew, songwriter/poet/prophet, modern psalmist? If not, treat yourself to his 1984 album "Various Positions", a great introduction to his best spiritual work.

Love & Light,
Ma'atkara

PS. I forgot to mention Leonard Cohen is also Zen (his Dharma name was Jikan - 'silence'). Spent time, in recent years, at a Zen monastery on Mt Baldy in California. Once described as "Zorba the Buddha"
Some may recall his earlier songs described as "music to cut your wrists by", Philistines! Not accurate, or fair. "Sisters of Mercy", "Suzanne", & "Joan of Arc" would hardly qualify for that appellation.
(Don't you wish they had a 'preview' option on postings, so you could change and correct mid-composing without 'edit lines' across your posts?)

Ma'atkara....so your'e an Aussie? Blimey and crikey and I'll be darned! I'm in the Northern suburds, just moved from the smog laden inner west thank God!

The name Leonard Cohen rings a bell but that's all.

Yes....I agree with you. I wish there was a preview option but one gets past one's ego attachments and gets used to it. Try not to take it personally.....It's just a computer after all and we won't hold it against you!

So, "one gets past one's ego attachments" does one?...I'm so relieved to hear that!
Actually, I've been spoiled by 'state of the art' options I'm used to on the Leonardcohenforum (the best). 'Preview'of one's post is the most basic; we have bold, italic, rainbow colours, and a range of sizes of typeface...plus better emoticons you only have to 'click'.
All of which helps us express ourselves better. (I'm a pedantic perfectionist, you see, that's my 'affliction')
Guess I'll just have to and bear it

Always loved the northern suburbs of Sydney - hills and lotsa trees.

Catchya later...

Ma'atkara...yes the hills are alive with the sound of music and the trees are a real blessing. All the Jacarandas are blooming now with their purplish blue flowers....remember them? I love them and they are everywhere around here.

By the way while we are on the subject of asking questions.....does your name mean anything? Or is it just something you made up? I just have some vibes about it so I thought I'd ask.

Faithful~...You ARE joking, right? Just in case you weren't, no, I'm not "atheist", or agnostic. Gnostic would perhaps be a more accurate appellation (except that I abhor 'labels'). I'm surprised, if you were serious, that you could ask such a question if you really HAD read my posts. :?
To be specific - due to direct, personal and empirical experience/evidence - I can now say (like Carl Jung, when asked) 'I don't HAVE to 'believe' [in God]; I KNOW!'

Luminair~
My 'nom de plume' is the throne/royal name of Hatshepsut (the only female Pharaoh of Egypt) and translates as 'Truth in the Spirit of Ra'.
Despite non-acknowledgement of the fact by the archaeological 'establishment', the Egyptologists' version of Egyptian history is chronologically about 600 years out of sync with known contemporaneous events. Hence Hatshepsut and the Queen of Sheba are one & the same.

I have also used the variation/contraction of 'Makera'.

Ma'atkara,

Thanks for the clarification. I just thought I saw a trace of that in your quote:
"THY will be done,IN Heaven as it is IN Earth (i.e.'in me')."

On forums like these when you see one raising themself up over God or the Heavens ("thy will be done, in Heaven as it is in Earth...in me") they often turn our to be atheists.

The Leonard Cohen part also made me wonder. My feeling is that he has some pretty ominous sounding music.

Faithful~
What an odd perception of my wanting 'God's will' to be manifested 'in me' - instead of my own. (Even Jesus prayed for that, in the Garden of Gethsemene.)
Perhaps the apparent transposition of 'in Heaven & in Earth' prompted your assumption. The idea is, like the Hermetic axiom, "That which is above is like that which is below; that which is below is like that which is above." Hence the prayer to 'make it so' - more so; as in God's will in/on Earth. As we are made of 'dust'/earth/physical, that means 'us'! Hope that explication helps.

If you have not heard the Leonard Cohen songs and albums I mentioned, it is possible to consider some others "ominous", if heard in isolation. The Prophets/psalmists didn't ONLY write/sing/speak of 'nice' positive things either. (The truth is not always 'pleasant' to hear.) His album "The Future" (1992) does have some 'dark', as well as positive, aspects; some of which have occurred - and are occurring!!

Love & Light,
Ma'atkara

Faithful, you're welcome.
I'd like to add one final note, to complete my little 'dissertation'. After Peter declared his recognition of Jesus as the Christ, he is told ... "And I will give you the the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Luke 16:19

By the way, I found it significant that my typed transposition of 'Heaven & Earth' was actually quite inadvertent - not deliberate at all. Since nothing happens without a reason, however, it would appear to have been meant to prompt this dialogue.
(I rarely make 'errors' like that, and never consciously.)

Love & light
Ma'atkara

On spiritual music, have you heard, or heard of the Aussie singer/songwriter Jeannie Lewis? An early album of hers:"Free Fall Through Featherless Flight" (mid 70s) is worth finding. She has an extraordinary voice, and the songs are amazing! There is a website on her too. (I found one of the best meta-search engines is 'dogpile.com' - great for finding anything on the web!)

Oh, I love Jacarandas - but then they drop their flowers all over the place; bare trees - messy yard.

Bye for now,
Ma'atkara

Ma'atkara, no I haven't heard of Jeannie Lewis but thanks for the recommendation. I will add that to my list.

Yes Jacaranda could be messy but then I have never had one in my yard. I just love looking at them. Being the artist that I am I also love to see the petals on the ground. I guess it's all relative isn't it.

As far as your name is concerned, thanks for the reply on that one. I had a feeling it meant something pretty interesting.

Oh yes, Luminair, my artist's eye appreciates the purple blossom carpet on the ground too. It's when they drop on the paths and patio, and turn brown and sticky...icky

Two stand-out songs on the Jeannie Lewis album, that come to mind, are "Wing Clippers" and "Motherless Child". I have a feeling you will really love her stuff.

Love,
Ma'atkara
